For Blenchy, Comic Con is not an event. It is a performance review conducted by the universe. As the unofficial caretaker, referee, organizer, mediator, and occasional accidental hero of Zanabia, Blenchy spends most of the year telling others to be themselves. Comic Con, unfortunately, asks him to do exactly that—in public, with confetti. His biggest insecurity? That people only like him because he’s useful. So every year, Blenchy over-prepares. This year was no different. He practiced poses. He tried seven costumes. One involved a cape. One involved pretending to be mysterious. None of them felt right. Panic set in around noon the previous day, which he handled maturely by reorganizing the same drawer four times. Finally, he chose his costume: “Blenchy on a Normal Day.” Same bow tie. Same corgie head. Clipboard included. The only addition was a badge that read: “Still Doing My Best.” The challenge? Showing up without trying to impress. At Comic Con, Zanabians didn’t applaud. They hugged. They thanked him. Someone brought him tea. Someone else told him to sit down for once. Blenchy almost cried. He blamed dust. Comic Con reminded him of something important: He doesn’t need to earn belonging. He already belongs. 🐶✨
