Mudhal Tiruvandādi — Poigai Āzhvār (Pāsurams 51–60)

Poigai Āzhvār begins this set by affirming intimacy. The Lord is not external to thought or speech; He pervades them. The human meaning is reassuring: even our searching thoughts are already within divine presence. உறவென நின்றான் உயிரென நின்றான் குரவென காத்து குளிர்வித்தான் வரவென வந்தான் வாழ்வு அளித்தான் அரவென பயம் அகற்றினான். Here the Lord is described as relationship itself. Protection is gentle, not dramatic. Fear dissolves quietly when life feels held. The verse teaches that safety often arrives without announcement. நெஞ்சம் உருக நின்றேன் நினைந்து அஞ்சல் என்றான் அருள் மொழிந்து கஞ்சம் போல மனம் மலர்ந்தது இஞ்சல் இன்றி இன்பம் வந்தது. This pāsuram speaks of emotional softening. When fear is answered with grace, the heart blooms. It reflects a universal truth: reassurance heals faster than control. கண்ணனே என்றேன் கண்ணீர் நின்றது எண்ணனே என்றேன் எண்ணம் நின்றது மண்ணனே என்றேன் மயக்கம் நின்றது உன்னையே என்றேன் உயிர் நின்றது. Each repetition here marks a release. Sorrow, restlessness, illusion fall away one by one. The verse shows how remembrance re-centers scattered emotions. நிற்பதும் போவதும் நீயே என்றேன் வெற்பும் பள்ளமும் நீயே என்றேன் கற்பனையும் உண்மையும் நீயே என்றேன் தெளிவே எனக்கு துணை ஆனாய். The Lord is seen in opposites—movement and stillness, height and depth. The human reflection is balance: life’s contrasts no longer threaten when unity is perceived beneath them. எப்பொழுதும் உன் அருள் எண்ணி இருப்பேன் அப்பொழுதே என் பயம் தீரும் என்பேன் செப்பொழுதும் உன் பேர் செவி நிற்கச் சொல்வேன் இப்பொழுதே இன்பம் காண்பேன். This verse emphasizes continuity. Grace remembered repeatedly becomes protection. The teaching is simple: consistency in remembrance builds emotional resilience. துன்பம் வந்தாலும் தளரவில்லை இன்பம் வந்தாலும் மயங்கவில்லை அன்பு ஒன்றே அடையாளம் ஆனது இன்பமும் துன்பமும் இரண்டும் சமம். Here Poigai Āzhvār reveals inner maturity. Equanimity is not indifference but rootedness. When love becomes identity, circumstances lose power over peace. உலகம் பொய் என உணரவில்லை ஆனால் நிலை அல்ல என உணர்ந்தேன் நிலை ஆனது நீ என கண்ட பின்னே நிலை தேடல் முடிந்தது. The Āzhvār does not reject the world; he understands its impermanence. Stability is found not by denying life, but by anchoring it in the eternal. என்னுள் நீ புகுந்த பின்னே என்னை நான் மறந்தேன் உன்னை நான் கண்ட பின்னே எல்லாம் நான் கண்டேன் மன்னு புகழ் உன் பேர் வாழ்க என்றேன். This verse expresses transformation through surrender. Losing the ego reveals a larger vision. The paradox is gentle and liberating. இதுவே பயன் இதுவே செல்வம் இதுவே உறவு இதுவே நிலம் இதுவே அவன் அருள் செய்த வாழ்வு இதுவே எனக்கு என்றும் நலம். The tenth pāsuram closes this set with gratitude. Wealth, relationship, stability, and well-being are redefined as grace itself. Fulfillment is no longer postponed; it is present. These ten pāsurams continue Poigai Āzhvār’s quiet unfolding of devotion. The lamp he lit now burns steadily, illuminating trust, balance, and emotional wholeness. The path is not rushed; it is assured.
