Nānmugan Tiruvandādi — Tirumazhisai Āzhvār (Pāsurams 81–90)

Tirumazhisai Āzhvār opens this set by drawing a clear boundary between permanence and impermanence. The world cannot offer lasting security; only the Divine can. This verse urges wise anchoring rather than despair. அறிவு உச்சி என்று நினைத்தேன் அறிவு எல்லை காட்டியது அருள் வந்தபின்னே அறிவே ஓய்வு கண்டது. The intellect discovers its own limits. Grace does not suppress thought; it quiets it. The verse reflects the calm that follows surrender. நான்முகன் உலகம் செய்தான் என்றாலும் நான்முகன் தானே அவன் படைப்பு நாராயணன் முதலாய் நின்றான் நான்முகன் அவன் நிழல் என்றேன். The creator is reaffirmed as dependent. Tirumazhisai Āzhvār strips away subtle pride even at cosmic levels, leaving only the Supreme. பல பெயர் பல வடிவம் மனம் குழப்பும் ஒரு பெயர் ஒரு பொருள் மனம் ஓய்விக்கும் குழப்பம் தீர ஒருவனைப் பிடித்தேன். Multiplicity unsettles the mind. Unity brings rest. This verse is practical guidance for overwhelmed seekers. கண்ணால் காணும் உலகம் கனவென உணர்ந்தேன் கனவு தெளிந்தபின்னே விழிப்பு வந்தது. Life is likened to a dream, not to dismiss it, but to awaken within it. The verse points toward awareness rather than withdrawal. அளவிட நினைத்த அறிவு தளர்ந்தது அளவில்லாதனை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டேன் ஏற்றுக்கொண்டபின்னே அமைதி நிலைத்தது. Acceptance stabilizes the mind. Peace follows naturally when control is released. உலகம் அவனை விட்டு இல்லை என்றால் உலகம் துன்பம் தராது அவனை மறந்த நினைவே துன்பம் என்று தெளிந்தேன். Suffering is reframed as forgetfulness, not fate. Remembrance restores balance. நான் என்ற உணர்வு நின்றபோது நீ என்ற உண்மை மறைந்தது நான் அகன்றபின்னே நீ முழுமையாய் நின்றாய். Ego obscures reality. When self-focus dissolves, truth stands unobstructed. அறிவு பெரிது என்று போற்றாதே அறியாததை ஏற்றுக்கொள் அறியாமை ஒப்புக்கொண்டபின்னே அருள் தானே சேரும். Humility is exalted above brilliance. Grace responds to honesty, not display. இதுவே நெறி இதுவே நிலை இதுவே தெளிவு இதுவே பயன் இதுவே அவன் அருள் செய்த பத்து இதுவே எனக்கு என்றும் விளக்கு. The tenth pāsuram seals this set. The lamp of discernment continues to burn—clear, calm, and unwavering. These ten pāsurams bring the fourth lamp very close to completion. Tirumazhisai Āzhvār’s teaching now rests in quiet authority, where truth stands self-evident and devotion expresses itself as unwavering clarity.
